Another week goes by and you still haven’t made a decision, there’s just so much to do and you want to get it right.
“I need to finish my new house but don’t know where to begin”. If this sounds like you, don’t worry you aren’t alone. Take a minute to go through the following steps, it might just be all you need to get your head in the right place and if you feel you could use a little bit of guidance that’s ok, we’ve got everything you need to get you started.
Take the pressure off. You can’t do everything at once and nor should you want to. Get a feel for the space you’re living in, you will quickly learn how the light works in each room and which areas of the home you use the most.
Collect ideas and inspiration. Consider what style you want to achieve. Pinterest is great for this, even if you don’t think you have a style, you will begin to see patterns emerging of things you are drawn to the most.
More important than choosing paint colours. An area that is often overlooked is planning your lighting. Get this right and you’re ahead of the game. It’s too late when everything is decorated and you find out you need extra sockets. Make a note of each room and how you plan on using it i.e. do you read, study from this area in which case it will require task lighting as well as soft lighting. Generally you need three types of lighting in a room.
Which area to decorate first? Most people start with three areas to decorate. The kitchen, living room and bedroom. A coat of paint is given all over just to get paint on the walls.
Window Treatments. Try inexpensive roller blinds for privacy until you know what design or style you would like for your windows.
