Decorating Your Dining Room For Christmas

Creating a beautiful dining room at Christmas is a fabulous way to spend time with your loved ones and make memories at Christmas.

Decorating your dining room at Christmas, whether it’s a formal occasion or a cosy and intimate space to gather around the table and enjoy a memorable feast, Christmas is the perfect time to decorate. Don’t have a dining room? You can still dress up your dining table and make it feel special. I’m sharing with you some useful tips and inspiration to make decorating your dining room at Christmas and all year round, effortless.

How To Make Your Dining Room More Elegant

Adding beautiful curtains to your dining room will set the tone of the room, not only will they look elegant, curtains really help furnish the space and create a cosier feel. Choose fabrics that are classic and timeless in design.

Consider adding some architectural detail, nothing too outlandish or not in-keeping with your home but subtle details, such as building out your architraves, or a decorative ceiling rose to show off a beautiful pendant light. Panelling is also very popular at the moment but maybe think of using it to display wallpaper or murals within the panels.

Adding a mural or wallpaper panels can create a beautiful backdrop and is an excellent way to decorate your dining room.

How To Make Your Dining Room Look Bigger

Mirrors

Decorating a smaller dining room can be challenging but there are some great ideas to create the illusion of space. There’s nothing new about adding a mirror into a room to create light and space but adding two together is a game changer and really adds the WOW factor as well as a statement piece.

Paint

Use paint to create space by painting the skirting and walls all in the same colour or in tones of the same colour. This is really effective in dark colours in a dining room which looks magical with twinkling lights and candlelight.

Dining Room Furniture

When choosing dining room furniture I seldom use a matching set, I like to add in beautiful dining chairs that are suitable for sitting around the table for long periods of time, especially at Christmas when you want to enjoy time spent with your family.

Circular dining tables are wonderful for creating an intimate seating arrangement in your dining room especially if you have a single pedestal table.

TIPS

On buying furniture.

Don’t buy a complete dining furniture set, it’s ok to mix and match. This will look more interesting than a matchy, matchy look.

On hanging a chandelier over a dining table

The basic rule of thumb when hanging a chandelier is 3-4 feet above the dining table.
