Is Wall Panelling Outdated?

Wall panelling has increased dramatically as a feature in our homes for the past few years and is still proving to be popular. If this is something you’ve been thinking of introducing into your home or perhaps you’re sitting on the fence as to whether or not to invest in this, before making the commitment perhaps you should explore it a little more by asking…

Does wall panelling lend itself to the room and property itself? In a minimalist modern style apartment or building this may look out of place.

Will it fit into the scale of the room? If you have particularly low ceilings the overall look can appear to be too fussy. Planning it out on the walls in pencil or with masking tape will give you a good idea how this is going to look before you start the project. Taking advice and employing the services of a good joiner with eliminate costly mistakes.

Wall Panelling Adds Architectural Interest

Wall panelling is a great way of adding some architectural detail to your home, you can create a focal point, hide cables from entertainment systems and it is an ideal solution if you want to hide flaws, dents or cracks on damaged walls.

Insulation

Apart from adding visual appeal and depth to a space, wall panels also work to keep rooms insulated as panelling is warm and provides acoustic insulation which is great at keeping noise out.

Which Wall Panelling is Best?

When it comes to deciding on the style of wall panelling I would take into consideration any details within the room itself, perhaps a fireplace displays a certain style that you could repeat in the design of the panelling, think also of skirting boards and cornicing which can have some influence on the design of the wall panel.

Wall Panelling For Living Rooms

As you can see these are two very different styles of panelling. The panelling used in this living room was carefully planned out incorporating the windows and architraves and is more of a shaker style wall panelling idea.

Wall Panelling In Hallway

This wall panelling used in the hallway and landing was created by applying moulding to the walls. The panelling suits this Georgian style home and the ceiling height shows it off to the best advantage. Both of these styles are beautiful but the moulding applied in the hallway serves the space better.

Wall Panelling Moulding

Applying wall panelling moulding to your walls has many advantages i.e. if you get tired of this look it is simply a matter of removing the trim, filling in and making good the walls before repainting. I find this is quite an affordable way to try out this decorative detail in your home.
